The Address for Innovation is 1717
“We came to Richmond because we felt the startup scene was right for us here. It is a market on an upward trend, and where we wanted to be." That’s the mindset many entrepreneurs are having about Richmond, VA. Which is why Capital One recently opened the 1717 Innovation Center.
This collaborative workplace, located in the heart of Richmond, is dedicated to investing in entrepreneurs so they can grow, compete and succeed. 1717 is an all-in-one collaborative workspace, experience design lab, conference venue and event space designed with the community in mind. The space is designed to:
- Support Richmond’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem
- Provide a central space for community organizations to learn, grow and connect, and
- Offer programming and skills-based volunteerism opportunities for Capital One associates to support community organizations
On the first three floors of 1717, you’ll find Startup Virginia, a high-growth startup incubator providing entrepreneurs and community organizations with access to a mentor network of multidisciplinary experts. Startup Virginia has workspace available for more than 50 startups at a time, and there are more than 100 mentors in the network now.
The 1717 Innovation Center is a community investment that is part of our Future Edge initiative, which is focused on developing tomorrow’s digitally-driven workforce by providing entrepreneurs with the skills, tools and resources they need to succeed. Capital One recognizes that when small businesses do well, local economies and communities are strengthened.
According to Startup Virginia Interim Executive Director, Bryan Bostic, “It is important for us to push the envelope. Not all startups work, but we have to keep pushing the envelope on innovation and entrepreneurship because that is the future of employment in our community.”
